Blogger Lite This Year

Hello!

bloggingI’ve been pretty light on the regular blogs this year, mainly focusing on bite-size shares via social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ ) together with the quarterly newsletters which I also post to this Blog page.

Experiences of Content Sharing This Year

The creation & sharing of content (millennial cool-speak for anything we forge & promote these days) has taught me much about what people do and do not read, routes to them and how I need to tailor what I write based on specific media channels & those who like them.

It’s not dissimilar to how we share stories when we are face to face. Some people want the detail, others the management summary, some want specifics while others are kicking back digesting the picture rich book on the coffee table while catching key phrases.

The key difference about the content media space is that it’s rare that we need to carve the same tale in so many ways over the same dinner table. There, everyone is listening at the same time and they digest what they need from what you say.

In the content media space no-one is tuned in at the same time. People are tuned in from different places. Some with great views, others with character length restrictions.

To whatever degree we like or dislike certain social media routes it’s fundamentally horses for courses.

What has 2014’s Content Creation Taught Me?

  • There are four dimensions: quality, frequency, tolerance & value. These matter as much for the creator as for the people you want to reach
  • “Less is more” is actually really hard work when it comes to social media content but it has been good to condense
  • Newsletters allow me to create overall themes and I enjoy pulling those together
  • Blogging allows me to ramble more freely which I hope provides more insight into Michael beyond the PC
