Coaching and Mentoring |Being Helped, Not Helpless

Here’s a nice little article and fun video piece on the role of mentoring when feeling stuck.

I’ve found that coaching and mentoring go hand-in-hand when working with clients from similar environments I’ve worked in in the past.

People wanting progress on a personal, career or business level often know what they want. That can manifest itself in either a clear idea or, at the very least, knowing that what’s currently happening isn’t working and change is necessary.

Frequently what people need more than anything is help in the form of supportive objectivity through the rut or tough times.

Coaching and mentoring ensures that doubt or difficulty doesn’t spiral into a negative mindset or profitless forms of distraction. Coaching and mentoring supports doing something progressive about the situation. That can encompass:

  • change of perspective
  • acknowledging other perspectives
  • regrouping our thoughts
  • altering mindset
  • identifying points of resistance (ours and others)
  • being empowered to address issues rather than feel restricted by them
  • breaking down ownership of things that can be done to make change happen
  • harnessing momentum

As in the proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together
