Marking The Winter Solstice, 21 December 2022

21 December 2022

Today is the Winter Solstice. The shortest day and the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere.

Each year I learn how to enjoy the warmth of the low lying sun more and more. It basks our southern facing living room in 30 degrees during the day.

For a matter of weeks, the dieback of plants and vegetation is merely a slumber. Everything needs time to regenerate. Let it rest while the evergreens quietly reassure.

And from tomorrow, day by reliable day, the earth and the sun provide subtle increments of daylight through until mid-summer.

This is the magic of mid-winter.
